What to Expect?

First Steps

After intake form is filled out, we schedule a one-on-one chat. This allows us to get acquainted and to go over necessary material to have a safe session and to inform and answer any questions you may have. Depending on our meeting, we may have one in person meeting before the session.

Prior to the Session

Prior to the session, there will be some guidelines and protocol to follow on the days leading up. This is also a good time to reflect on intention.

On the day of the session, the person working with the medicine will be instructed on diet and water intake.

Preparation

Prior to the administration of Kambo, we will discuss your intention. This aids in focus and clarity, and respectful partnership with Kambo. At this time we prepare, by cleansing the space, tools the area of application, as well as cleansing and protecting ourselves energetically.

Mapacho

A word on Mapacho, also known as Nocotiana Rustica.

Mapacho is a very potent variety of tobacco. This sacred plant ally assists with Kambo to offer grounding and protection and cleansing. Though fiecely misunderstuood in the West, this powerful, potent, sacred plant is an important part of the session.

Administration

During the session, Kambo is administered through the skin via small circular superficial burns, known as “gates”, on the top layer of the skin to reach the lymphatic system. Opened with the Tamishi vine, they only pinch and do not bleed. This is the only safe way to administer Kambo.

It is placed on only the arms or ankles of the person sitting with Kambo.

Application

The receiver’s saliva marinates the dried secretion and it is mixed into a paste, which is divided up into a number of dots. These dots are then applied to the open gates on the skin and may feel tingly or sting a little.

Kambo is absorbed into the body via the lymphatic system and within seconds it is circulating around the body in the bloodstream, causing a rise in heart rate.

Effects

Even if you have sat with Kambo before, it is important to remember no two sessions are the same. Once Kambo is absorbed into the bloodstream, the person sitting will feel various waves of sensations.

Often times, but not always a person experiences some of the following purges: tremors, crying, nausea or having to use the bathroom.

Sitting with Kambo

As you are sitting with Kambo, various tools are used to help move the energy of Kambo, mostly Mapacho. On occasion a rattle can aid in releasing stuck energy and Agua de Florida is helpful as well.

During the session, it is helpful to breathe, recall your intention and relax into the sensations that are moving within the body, trust and surrender as Kambo moves through your system.
